Then, the latest Philz coffee Chicago outlet will be set to join the other 50 company locations.
Philz was launched in 2003 in the Mission district of San Francisco. Today, Jacob Jaber, the son of the founder, is responsible for running the company. He'll be at the opening event just to the west of the stop for CTA’s Division Street Blue Line.
The baked products for this outlet will be supplied by Fabiana’s Bakery and Aya Pastry to complement the Philz offerings. Customers can enjoy light bites such as mediterranean dishes, bowls and sandwiches. Perhaps it;s no surprise to learn that Jacob Jaber's family roots are in the Lebanon and Palestine.
The Philz coffee served is made from blends from countries like Colombia, Brazil and Ethiopia. Contrary to the usual counter ordering in most coffee shops, Philz coffee customers are served by a barista who explains the many coffee blends and other menu items. Customers can also order bespoke drinks.
As an example of the variety on offer, a customer could order a cold-brewed coffee garnished with fresh mint and sweetened with brown sugar. They can see the beans being ground as they wait. The drink-making process takes about 3-4 minutes but anyone who doesn't want to wait or is in a rush can order via the Philz app for faster service. The app can save favourite drinks too for future ordering.
The aim of Philz is to make ‘artisan’ coffee accessible to the masses, with quality available to everyone. This highlight of Philz means that Jacob Jaber doesn’t really need to worry about the competition. Philz customers are looking for a different experience and appreciate quality. While this could apply to any company, Jaber believes that Philz truly embodies those words. Among the features of each outlet is excellent WiFi and, on average, customers stay for around 1.5 hours to enjoy the ambience and refreshments.
So, the Wicker Park opening in Chicago on Saturday June 22 will really show just what Philz has in store for Chicago.
