The company has shops in Chicago and the East Coast, and the airport locations will include McCarran International Airport at Las Vegas, Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport with other shops planned to open in the near future.
The popular chain was started in the UK in 1986, and as well as the UK and United States the chain has shops in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Although the original operation went into liquidation it was rescued at the last hour by Beecham and Metcalfe who bought the name and branding and breathed new life into the company.
From the outset the company has had charitable aims and the Pret Foundation Trust was set up to mitigate poverty in the UK. The founders have not deviated from their original charitable aims which will continue with the opening of the new branches. This will entail a commitment to alleviate homelessness by donating any surplus food to local charities.
Pret A Manger's U.S. President, Sara Lee, has commented that the company are thrilled to be opening up branches in major airports with menus that include freshly prepared sandwiches, salads, hot wraps, coffee, tea and sweet treats.
The airport operation is in partnership with HMSHost – a global restauranteur who aim to lead the way in enhancing the dining experiences of travelers in conjunction with Pret A Manger. Customers will have the opportunity to eat in or take away including eating on board.
The new menus will include a host of vegan and vegetarian options and there will be a range of breakfast, lunch and evening meals available. Popular customer favorites will be available including Chicken Avocado Salad, Ham and Cheese Baguette, Mediterranean Mezze Salad, Chicken Parm Hot Wrap and Greek Egg White Frittata.
For breakfast customers will be able to choose from Egg and Bacon Brioche, Steel-Cut Oatmeal and Blueberry Yogurt Pots. As Pret A Manger continue to raise their profile in airports across the United States, customers will be able to enjoy more variety and a range of delicious, freshly prepared food as part of their travel experience.
