Hoping to replicate their success in Europe and Asia, the Scandinavian company open their retail outlet on the back of the recently launched e-commerce site. Hay work with some of the world’s leading designers to offer a range of contemporary and colourful items for the home. The design brand will be located in Portland’s Pearl District, at 825 Northwest 13th Avenue.
Hay believe an appreciation for craftsmanship and heritage make Portland an ideal city for their first store in the US. The company has previously chosen smaller cities to launch and test the water, with Bath in the UK, rather than London, a prime example. The Danish design brand did open a pop-up shop in the MoMa store in Soho previously, a three month planned stay three years ago which went down so well with customers it remains today. The Portland venture is in collaboration with furniture maker Herman Miller, whose expertise and experience of the American home interiors market they will hope to benefit from.
Hay will be offering a range of furniture and home accessories from the best of today’s designers for all areas of your home. Sleek contemporary design, vibrant textiles and colourful pieces at competitive prices can be expected in the Portland store. The 3,400 square feet retail outlet in an industrial style building will aim to have a homey feel with bare brickwork used to contrast the vibrant colours of the product range. Customers will be welcomed by the company logo in bold black lettering on brickwork at the front of the store.
Hay was established in 2002 and builds its success on product design with international appeal. They hope to work with Herman Miller to produce their furniture locally and want to make their store a part of the Portland community. Beginning with a product range of just 13 items, Hay can now boast an impressive and eclectic mix of home items, yet still maintain the initial concept of producing stylish, attainable design products aimed at the mid-range market. Shoppers for furniture and home-ware items in Portland will now get to experience this first hand.
