The employee-owned grocery retailer, Coborn's, now has a network of more than 50 Midwestern supermarkets. Responding to a popular demand among its customers, "more fresh gluten-free bakery treats, please", the company started working on an answer over a year ago. Since Coborn's already operates its own facilities (central bakery, dry-cleaning, distribution center), building a brand new separate gluten-free bakery should meet the demand.
Coborn's has been testing hundreds of recipes over the past eight months and the tricky part was to find products that were both gluten-free and tasty. The expert bakers made their selection and now produce 20 specialties to supply Coborn's supermarkets, Cash Wise and Marketplace Foods store, starting this week: muffins, cupcakes, brownies, cakes, breads or buns, along with seasonal items. All products are also available to purchase online.
Choosing a gluten-free diet may be a choice but also a necessity. In that case, even the tiniest gluten particle may have consequences, that's why Coborn's makes sure that every ingredient entering the bakery and every product leaving it is duly tested before being certified gluten-free.
