Having started out as a simple drug store in small space that only measured 50 by 20 feet, the drugstore rapidly grew over the decades to become one of the most respectable American pharmacies. In truth, Walgreen has become the standard of measure for all good pharmacies. This story began way back in 1901 in a town going by the name of Dixon, Illinois as a humble dream of Mr Charles R. Walgreen Sr.
From the humble small town of Dixon, the store would soon outgrow the local town’s demand and this presumably forced Mr Walgreen to relocate to the only major city in Illinois which was Chicago. This move was the first major step towards the expansion of the chain. It is also recorded that Walgreen actually found himself in pharmacy as a flux after cutting his finger. This move rendered him unable to pursue his athletic lifestyle.
