Best Buy began life in 1966 as small hi-fi store Sound of Music in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The business was profitable from the first year, and founder Richard M. Schulze began acquiring other electricals businesses, buying out his partner and increasing the number of stores. In 1983, Sound of Music expanded its product range to include other appliances and rebranded as Best Buy, opening the first of its now familiar superstores in Burnsville, Minnesota. Since then, the brand has become internationally recognised with stores throughout the Americas and business interests as far away as China.
Best Buy is now many consumers’ choice for home electronics. While Best Buy is famous for its deals on price, its Geek Squad brand ensures customers know how to operate their laptop, camera, phone, TV, games console and home theatre, and can troubleshoot washing machines, fridges and other large and small home appliances.
